Summer or Winter, Spring or Autumn, rain, hail or shine, rashguards must be worn by all practitioners for all classes both gi and no gi. No rashguard, no training.
GI Uniform
MALE & FEMALE
- students may wear any gi, from any manufacturer, in any colour for gi classes.
- the gi must be a Jiu Jitsu gi, and not for example, a karate gi which will not withstand the rigour of Jiu Jitsu gi training.
- members must not wear a gi embroidered with, patched with, or otherwise displaying the name of another Jiu jitsu academy.
- because it is worth repeating, a rashguard MUST be worn under the gi. No rashguard, no training.
NO GI UNIFORM
MALE
- males must wear a rashguard, either long, or short sleeve, on their upper body.
- T-shirts are not acceptable training uniform.
- members may wear any rashguard, from any manufacturer, in any colour or design, so long as it is not offensive, and does not bear another Jiu Jitsu academy's logo or name
- members are prohibited from wearing only spats or compression shorts, whether long or short, with no shorts worn on top of them.
- shorts must not have zippers, metal tags of any kind or pockets.
FEMALE
- females must wear a rashguard, either long, or short sleeve, on their upper body.
- T-shirts are not acceptable training uniform.
- members may wear any rashguard, from any manufacturer, in any colour or design, so long as it is not offensive, and does not bear another Jiu Jitsu academy's logo or name
- female members may wear spats, or compression shorts, either long or short, with or without shorts worn over them.
- if wearing shorts, they must not have zippers, metal tags of any kind or pockets.
UNIFORMS GENERALLY
- All uniforms both gi and no gi must be clean, dry and odour free prior to class commencing. If you train more than once per day, you must wear a clean and washed uniform for each session. You are not permitted to, for example, wear the same gi in a morning class and then wear the same gi for either a lunchtime or evening class without having first washed and dried it.
- Underwear must be worn for all classes whether gi or no gi.
HYGIENE
- Please respect yourself, your training partners and the Academy by attending to your own personal hygiene. This means that you should be clean and odour free prior to class.
- To help avoid injury and infection, and preserve the tatami mats, finger and toe nails must be kept short. If you are unsure whether your nails are short enough, they probably aren't, so please clip them before class. Long fingernails are incompatible with Jiu Jitsu.
- Keep feet clean. Dirty feet have no place on the tatami mats.
- Shoes or pluggers must be worn at all times when outside the tatami mats. If you go to the toilet without wearing shoes or pluggers you will not be permitted to return to the tatami mats for the duration of the current class.
- if you attend the Academy not wearing some kind of footwear you will be turned away and will not be permitted to train.
- any member who has a skin infection is strictly PROHIBITED from training until the skin infection is fully resolved.
GENERAL ACADEMY RULES
1. Atomic Jiu Jitsu is a family environment, please be respectful to each other and our instructors at all times.
2. Please address all black belt instructors as Professor and non-black belt instructors as Coach.
3. Spectator coaching of students (particularly children) is not permitted during class.
4. Do not train when ill or showing symptoms of sickness. Please be sure to keep any cuts or open wounds securely bandaged.
5. Shoes, food and drink are not permitted on the training area.
6. All drink bottles must be kept on the bag racks provided.
7. We highly suggest you remove all body piercings or jewellery during training sessions for your safety.
8. Electronic Devices are not permitted on the mat during training sessions.
9. If late, please sit or stand outside of the training area until you are welcomed by an instructor. In this regard, we expect you to show respect for yourself, your instructors and your training partners by not being always late.
10. Keep entrance to training area clear, bags and drink bottles are to be kept in racks provided.
11. Make sure to always keep your belt on. After a roll immediately retie your belt and get ready for the next round.
12. During instruction, please sit or stand in good posture. Talking should be kept at a minimum and relate to class material.
13. Know your limits but work together and have fun!
14. Do not roll so intensely that you lose awareness of who is training around you. Lower belts must always give way to higher belts. No matter your belt rank, all males must always give way to female practitioners.
15. Train hard, roll hard – but always roll fair and never rip on submission attempts.
16. STRENGTH & CONDITIONING
- when using the S&C equipment, all weights must be returned to the relevant rack after use - both dumbbells and weight plates.
- barbells are to be returned to their racks.
- caution should always be exercised when training in the S&C area
- a towel must be used at all times when using benches, and if stretching or doing any other activity on the gym floor, a towel must also be used at all times.
17. NON COMPLIANCE WITH ACADEMY RULES
Atomic Jiu Jitsu is a family environment - men, women, teens and children train here. The Academy Rules have been drafted to ensure that all people who attend the Academy feel welcome.
Compliance with the Academy Rules is non-negotiable.
Continued contravention of the Academy Rules will lead to exclusion.
